Carbon Neutral Waste Management Company, B&M Waste Services, have launched a new waste minimisation campaign- Simple Swaps. B&M Waste’s Simple Swaps outlines some of the basic things we can all do to reduce unnecessary single use items, which we all know are extremely wasteful.
Recently receiving the ‘Plastic Free Champions’ Status by Surfers Against Sewage (SAS), as well as pledging their support to PlasticFreeGM, B&M Waste are leading the way in the campaigning for a reduction in plastic waste- supporting both clients and staff to reduce waste and plastic use where possible.
The Simple Swaps campaign aims to minimise waste output, through reducing unnecessary waste being produced by making some simple, daily swaps. Quick fixes include:
– Using glasses and refillable ceramic mugs, as opposed to paper cups- B&M can 100% recycle paper coffee cups with their newly launched scheme www.bagnallandmorris.com/cups, however the ideal solution is not to produce the waste in the first place
– Using LED lighting- LED lights can be up to 80% more efficient than regular bulbs
– Removal of plastic cutlery, instead using stainless steel alternatives
Commenting on the programme, Neil Curtis, Managing Director at B&M Waste Services, said: “Simple Swaps has been created with the aim of guiding businesses and individuals towards making more sustainable and eco-friendly choices in their buying and workplace habits. With the campaign offering such a range of swaps that can be applied, we hope to make a valuable difference through our customers and beyond.”
B&M Waste work with companies to conduct a free waste audit to identify ways that they can reduce their waste output and make more sustainable choices. The audit looks at all waste produced in your business and develop a strategy, which includes communications and training to obtain buy-in from customers, staff and visitors alike towards the new approach. More than 7000 businesses have benefitted from the free waste audit, and you can too.
Monitoring and reporting the results in waste reduction can be demonstrated through reports such as B&M Waste’s Environmental report- highlighting the overall volume, and breakdown of waste by materials, weight and customer site, over a period. This allows businesses to see the improvements in a quantifiable way.
