Food Waste.

By separating food waste from their general waste, our customers can increase their recycling rates and save money.

We offer food waste recycling service to restaurants, hotels and manufacturing businesses to complement existing waste services.

Through separating food waste, you ensure its recyclability which can often reduce your general waste collection costs as well as the environmental impact. We provide dedicated food waste bins and compostable liners with a collect and swap service. When full, each food bin is collected and replaced with a clean, sanitised food waste caddy and this helps to eliminate odours, saves on maintenance and maintains biosecurity. We can also collect compacted food waste and palletised food for destruction.

We typically use food waste collections to generate green energy via anaerobic digestion, which speeds up the natural breakdown of food waste inside a large, sealed tank. The process emits a methane-rich gas which is captured and used to generate electricity. Depending on the volume and nature of the waste, we may be able to offer rebates for animal feed.

What Happens To My Collected Food Waste?

Have you ever wondered what happens to your recycled food waste once you have put it in your food waste bin? The process is simple:

  1. The food waste journey begins with your leftover food waste.
  2.  Once your small food waste recycling bin is full, transfer all the contents to your big food waste bin.
  3. A specialist cleaning team will then empty your food waste into the food compactor.
  4. Once in the food compactor, the B&M Waste Services team will come and collect the food waste from your premise and take it to the anaerobic digestion plant.
  5. At the plant,  food waste is digested with bacteria, which produces Biogas (Methane) which is used to either enhance natural gas in the national grid or used to generate electricity. Any residue material makes bio-fertilisers.
