A leading Carbon Neutral Waste Management company has assisted Gretna Gateway Outlet village in picking up a prestigious environmental award for its on-site recycling strategy.
Gretna Gateway will receive a Green Apple Award for Environmental Best Practice at a glittering presentation ceremony at the Houses of Parliament in November.
The awards, now in their 24th year, reward and promote environmental best practice in the UK and elsewhere in the world.
The award was given for Gretna Gateway’s overall environmental performance, which in part is a result of the major waste management initiative B&M waste have introduced at the site, where diversion of waste from landfill has now hit the very impressive level of 100%.
So far in 2018, Gretna Gateway have saved 234162kg of carbon through increased recycling with B&M Waste, which is the equivalent of 201 trees or 60465 car miles.
Lucy Wilfan, of B&M Waste Services, said: “We are delighted to have won a prestigious Green Apple award which recognises the fantastic results our relationship with the Gretna Gateway team have been able to achieve in a relatively short period of time.”
“We praise Gretna Gateway Outlet Village staff, tenants and customers for their buying in to the new waste flow strategy we have implemented together.”
Lisa McNab, from Gretna Gateway said: “The Green Apple award is recognition of the team effort involving Gretna Gateway, B&M Waste Services and all the management and tenants at the shopping centre. Everyone is rightly proud of the contribution they have made to protecting the environment and improving sustainability.”
The Green Apple Awards, run by the Green Organisation, will be presented on November 12th, and are supported by the Environment Agency, the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health, the Chartered Institution for Wastes Management and other independent bodies.
B&M Waste and Gretna Gateway Outlet Village are continuing to look at new innovative ways of further improving the environmental performance of the site, through new techniques and technologies.
