On Thursday, we were delighted to welcome Esther McVey on a visit to our head office in Bromborough.
Esther McVey, MP for Wirral West and Minister of State for Employment, toured the offices of B&M Waste Services and B&M Secure Shredding to kick off her national employment roadshow. This showcased the benefits of work experience and hiring apprentices and new graduates.
As a family-run business, an important part of our ethos is employing people from the areas in which we operate and we have a long history with apprenticeships which often develop into long-term careers for those involved. Even Managing Director, Neil Curtis, started working on a company apprenticeship scheme over twenty years ago, and they are now offered in departments such as waste transfer, transport and fleet as well as office-based departments.
In 2014, B&M was shortlisted for ‘Employer of the Year’ at the City of Manchester Business Awards and scooped the top prize of ‘Business of the Year’ at the same awards, in addition to wins for Sustainability at the Wirral Business Awards, Green Apple Awards and North West Chamber Awards. In 2015, it was announced that B&M was the winner of ‘Employer of the Year’ at the City of Manchester Business Awards.
Esther said: “B&M Waste Services is a great example of a local company that is creating jobs for Wirral residents by successfully competing for contracts across the UK.”
Mick Ashall, Director of B&M Waste Services said, “As a local business employing 98% of staff who reside in the region we service, we always find that giving opportunities to local young people keeps our business full of fresh ideas and enthusiasm. This really is our ethos and allows us to remain entrepreneurial in our innovative approach.”
