B&M Waste Services pledge their support to Plastic Free July

Carbon-Neutral B&M Waste Services are celebrating a plastic free July.

Plastic Free July is a global initiative, launched with the aim of encouraging the use of single-use plastics throughout the month of July.

B&M Waste Services actively take steps to reduce their need for single-use plastic, instead focusing on sustainable alternatives. B&M recently supported the Plastic Free Greater Manchester campaign, aiming to begin the first city-region wide plan to drive down avoidable single-use plastics. As well as this, B&M Waste have also been awarded ‘Plastic Free Champions’ Status by Surfers Against Sewage (SAS), as part of their Plastic Free Communities campaign.

Understanding that with support, other businesses may be also be able to reduce their single-use item reliance, B&M recently launched a new waste-minimisation campaign called Simple Swaps. Simple Swaps are small (and simple!) changes that can be made both in the workplace and at home. Making swaps such as using a refillable water bottle and avoiding fast food outlets are changes that can significantly decrease your use of single-use items.

In 2016 B&M Waste also opened their state-of-the-art innovation centre, Milner House. The centre now houses B&M’s education programme, Little Litter Pickers, a programme designed to educate future generations on the wider impact that waste has on the environment.

Speaking on the Plastic Free July campaign, Jayne Kennedy, Marketing Manager at B&M Waste Services, commented: “Plastic Free July is a fantastic initiative to highlight the importance of reducing our waste output and need for single-use items. At B&M Waste, we aim to educate on the need to reduce, reuse and recycle, as well as the direct impact that waste has on the environment. We strive to achieve 100% diversion from landfill and are extremely proud to support so many plastic-free and waste minimisation campaigns.”

B&M Waste offer a FREE waste audit to any business looking to reduce their waste output and use of single-use items. If you would like to take advantage of this, contact us today on 0330 1234 100 or download our Simple Swaps Brochure for more information on how to make more simple swaps!
