B&M & Claremont Farm Team Up to Tackle Local Environmental Issues

Carbon Neutral waste management organisation, B&M Waste Services, and local business, Claremont Farm, have joined forces to improve recycling levels and reduce carbon impact at the family-run farm, shop and café in Wirral.

Along with his mother, father and brother, Andrew Pimbley is one of the Directors at Claremont Farm with his family running the farm and growing fruit and vegetables on the land since 1906. In recent years, the family has expanded their farm shop, opened a bustling café serving home-grown and local produce, and now also offer an on-site events space.

Sustainability and supporting local business has always been key for Claremont Farm, which is why the partnership with B&M Waste was such a good fit; the waste business – also based in Wirral and family-run – offer recycling-led waste solutions and have been Carbon Neutral since 2011.

B&M Waste have supported Claremont Farm in moving over to segregated waste streams to ensure the highest possible levels of recycling, with food, glass, cardboard and general waste all now collected separately. Glass and cardboard is recycled whilst food waste is put through a process called anaerobic digestion, which produces biogas used for electricity and generating heat. General waste is made into refuse derived fuel, producing energy and ensuring that none of the farm’s waste goes to landfill.

The energy produced from food and general waste equates to 149 TVs powered for a whole year – or over 40,000 miles driven in a family electric car.

Andrew commented; “As a business, we need to be sustainable on this planet, with as little impact as possible. We need to ensure that our produce is recycled or disposed of in the correct way. Segregating our waste with B&M makes it a lot easier for us to do this as a company.”

Jayne Kennedy, Marketing Manager for B&M Waste, said; “Claremont Farm is a fantastic example of putting sustainability first. The work that they’ve done – and continue to do – with B&M Waste is outstanding and achieving 100% diversion from landfill is the icing on the cake.”
