B&M WASTE SERVICES ACHIEVES CARBON NEUTRALITY BY SUPPORTING ECO-FRIENDLY PROJECTS

B&M Waste Services achieves Carbon NeutralityA leading waste management company has achieved carbon neutrality for the fourth consecutive year and helped support eco-friendly projects at home and abroad in the process.

B&M Waste Services achieves carbon neutrality for the fourth consecutive year.

In the past 12 months, offset 2590 tonnes of carbon dioxide by supporting Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) certified clean energy projects and, in total, the company has offset more than 10,000 tonnes in the four year period. The projects reduce carbon emissions via the displacement of fossil fuels.

During the past four years, B&M has invested more than £43,000 in total offset spend on projects in Indonesia, Brazil, China, Turkey and India. It has further invested £1400 on tree planting initiatives in the North West of England.

Among the overseas projects B&M has backed is a landfill gas management and power scheme at the Bantargebang site in Indonesia. The project involves reclaiming the landfill gas and converting it into energy at the power plant.

B&M’s carbon neutrality meets the British Standards Industry’s (BSI) Publicly Available Specification (PAS) 2060. The company works with Carbon Footprint Ltd on the implementation of its carbon management plan.

“We are delighted to have achieved carbon neutrality for the fourth consecutive year and to have helped assist a number of vitally important eco-friendly projects around the world in this time.

“We have a formal carbon management plan for our business, which documents our carbon reduction targets year-on-year, and we also recommend our customers do likewise.”

“We are helping hundreds of organisations like B&M win more business by developing their carbon and sustainability credentials and making them carbon neutral.”

B&M is one of the UK’s largest independent waste management and recycling companies with sites in Wirral, Manchester and Norwich. The company, which celebrates its 60th birthday this year, employs more than 170 people.
