Since 1976, Penketh Group has been transforming business spaces across Manchester and Liverpool, applying over 40 years of expertise to provide bespoke solutions for interior design, furniture, interiors and technology.
Specialising in a range of sectors, including hospitality & leisure, education, extra care and the corporate workspace, it prides itself on its user-focused approach, which puts the needs of people before anything else.
Sustainability is a key focus for the business and as a supplier and trusted partner to many businesses throughout the North-West, it is crucial that it operates in a sustainable and ethical manner and reduces its environmental impact.
Penketh Group was looking to partner with an innovative, Carbon neutral waste management company that could offer a recycle and re-use approach and ensure that minimal waste would be sent to landfill.
Penketh Group had partnered with Planet Mark and as part of its sustainability certification, it needed to demonstrate that it makes continuous improvements to reduce waste and its overall Carbon footprint and was able to provide detailed reports of its achievements in this area.
B&M Waste Services identified the Group’s main waste streams of general waste, paper & cardboard, plastics, and wood and established collection and disposal services that fulfilled the client’s sustainability brief of zero waste to landfill.
Using a range of waste containers, including 1100ltr bins, FELs and roll-on-roll-offs, B&M Waste Services is collecting separated waste streams that are either being sent for recycling, or in the case of the mixed municipal waste, further segregated with any residual waste being sent to a waste to energy facility.
Monthly environmental reports are produced which enable Penketh Group to provide evidence in its accreditation applications that it is meeting the necessary criteria.
Although Penketh has saved money by switching to B&M Waste Services, this was not its main objective. Its primary goal was to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill and B&M has helped to reduce that to zero. This was a key factor in its environmental impact assessment, which is part of its Planet Mark accreditation.
Sustainability has never been more crucial than it is today. At Penketh Group, we believe we have a responsibility to invest in our sustainable journey for the good of the planet and its people now but also for future generations. The work we do today will hopefully go toward a more energy efficient society, but we appreciate that to achieve this we need to work with and be supported by like-minded suppliers and partners who share our vision, B&M fits this principle.
Attracting the right employees that want to join us because sustainability is part of our business ethos is also vital. We look forward to continuing our sustainability journey, not because we are dictated by society to do so but because we want to.
