Serving vegan and vegetarian Gujarati street food and modern craft beer, Bundobust Ltd. is widely regarded as a game-changing enterprise within the independent food and drink industry. Stemming from a single tweet in 2013, owners Mayur Patel and Marko Husak collaborated on sold out street food events and pop-ups before opening their first Bundobust restaurant in Leeds in 2014. Since then, the pair have seen Bundobust grow from strength to strength, opening 2 more restaurants in Manchester Piccadilly and Liverpool, and their own brewery on Oxford Street, Manchester.
Bundobust wanted to find a zero to landfill waste management company that offered full recycling of their waste with clear and visible reporting. One main area of concern for the company was that many other waste management companies were unable to recycle some of the Vegware packaging (plant-based compostable foodservice packaging) that they used and it would inevitably end up in landfill. As a fast-growing business in the food and drink industry, this meant every new location opened would only increase the amount of un-recycled waste by the company. This was a simple fix for us at B&M Waste Services; we were able to process and recycle the Vegware packaging along with the rest of the Bundobust waste types, including food waste, paper and cardboard, general mixed waste and glass.
With the help of B&M Waste Services, all Bundobust sites now divert over 9500KG of waste from landfill each week, with 67% of that being food waste that is sent to a facility where it is used to generate renewable energy and organic fertiliser. The remaining waste is segregated and cleansed to ensure as much as possible is recycled and any residual waste is used as an alternative to fossil fuel in power plants to become a renewable source of electricity. This is how B&M waste met the zero to landfill target that Bundobust set.
