Alderley Park was formerly a stately manor, set over 450 acres and is a place where world leading science, innovation and stylish living come together. It was originally the main research facility for AstraZeneca and is now home to 200 scientific and tech companies and luxury housing.
Bruntwood is the UK’s first commercial property landlord to sign up to the World Green Building Council’s Net Zero Carbon Buildings Commitment, pledging to make their buildings net zero carbon by 2030.
The need
Bruntwood: Alderley Park’s main aim when choosing to partner with Carbon Neutral Plus accredited B&M Waste Services was to reduce their Carbon Footprint.
B&M has worked closely with Bruntwood and Alderley Park with regards to waste minimisation and segregation, implementing a clear, colour coded waste management system and completing full on-site operative training at the commencement of the contract.
Bruntwood also took part in comprehensive off-site training at the B&M Recycling Innovation Centre based at Milner House in Bromborough.
The solution
Following the initial mobilisation, B&M swapped the existing 1100L bins to Front End Loaders (FELs) and placed them on a 2 x weekly collection service. This dramatically reduced the number of vehicles on site on a weekly basis.
Due to regular site audits from the B&M Key Account Manager and Bruntwood’s Waste Manager, they were able to identify how much cardboard waste was being generated and segregated and they implemented a further site improvement by installing a mill sized baler.
The cardboard waste is now collected in drop-fronted bins and transported to the baler using an on-site vehicle and recyclable bales are produced.
These improvements have been widely embraced by the Bruntwood Waste Team.
