Stick ‘n’ Step supporters defy the heat to take part in the Wirral Coastal Walk

Stick n Step wirral bike134 walkers joined North West charity Stick ‘n’ Step’s Wirral Coastal Walk team yesterday (Sunday 18 June) while temperatures soared, hoping to raise funds in excess of £6,500.  Stick ‘n’ Step provides conductive education sessions and support services to children with cerebral palsy and their families, completely free of charge. The Stick ‘n’ Step walking team, sponsored by Wirral waste company B&M Waste Services, consisted of some of the children themselves, their parents, friends and supporters.

The annual walk, organised by the Rotary Club of North Wirral, covers 15 miles of coastal path, starting from Seacombe Ferry and ending at Wirral Country Park Visitor Centre at Thurstaston.

Sarah Smithson, operations manager at Stick ‘n’ Step, said, “Normally we just hope it doesn’t rain too much – we certainly didn’t expect to be doing the walk in such scorching heat! All our walkers were fantastic and didn’t let the hot sun put them off. Walking or riding bikes, trikes and scooters, they all did themselves proud. We are excited to find out the final sum raised and would like to say a big thank you to everyone involved, in particular B&M Waste for sponsoring us.”Stick n Step big cheque

Neil Curtis, Managing Director at B&M Waste Services, said, “We were so pleased to get further involved with this great charity over the Wirral Walk. It is an extraordinary event that raises money for so many good causes. Local people really get behind it and it was amazing to see so many people putting their best foot forward and braving the high temperatures. We would like to say congratulations to the organisers and to every member of the Stick ‘n’ Step team.”

Stick ‘n’ Step provides support services to children with cerebral palsy and their families. The charity works with over 70 children, allowing them to gain the skills they need to live independent lives through conductive education sessions. The specialist sessions are provided free of charge to the families by Stick ‘n’ Step.
