Edmonton Green is going Green

Edmonton GreenEdmonton Green is celebrating major improvements to its waste management and recycling initiatives by hosting fun, eco-themed family events for the public to enjoy this Easter holiday.

From Monday 10th April – Saturday 15th April, Edmonton Green will be entertaining local residents with a variety of FREE activity hosted in the pop-up Edmonton Green Garden, near Market Square.

The event will begin by unveiling an “eco-pledge wall” on Monday 10th April. On weekdays between 12pm and 3pm, an Edmonton Green eco-warrior will be encouraging shoppers to sign their name as a promise to make ‘greener’ life choices. For example, shoppers can pledge to ‘always carry a reusable bag’ and to ‘use public transport or walk wherever possible’. To help shoppers achieve these goals, the Centre will be giving away Edmonton Green re-usable shopper bags at selected times throughout the week!

Also on Monday 10th April, Carbon Neutral waste management company B&M Waste Services will be at the garden, handing out freebies and talking to people about what happens to waste, how waste is diverted from landfill and why it’s so important to put the right waste in the correct bin. What’s more, children can kick-start their week of eco fun with a special trail around the Centre. Families are encouraged to hunt down the hidden recycling symbols in shop windows to be in with the chance of winning a children’s gardening hamper. The trail will begin at the Edmonton Green Garden, in front of Market Square, where entry forms can be collected and returned.

On Tuesday 11th April between 11am and 4pm, children can decorate their very own plant pot at the FREE craft workshop. The plant pots will be made from recycled egg boxes and children can plant water cress, to nurture at home. Shoppers can also give their broken bikes some TLC by visiting Cycle Enfield’s Dr Bike, outside ASDA, between 10am and 4pm. Cycle Enfield has a number of bike repair kits and keyrings to give away throughout the week; these will be available from the Edmonton Green Garden.

On Wednesday 12th April, the Local Energy Advice Programme (LEAP) in partnership with Enfield Council and Groundwork London will be advising visitors how to save energy in their homes and cut down on their bills. A LEAP representative will have examples of the energy saving measures which they install for free in eligible households.

On Thursday 13th April, the amazing Flower Power Walking Hedges will be roaming the Centre at intervals throughout the day, spreading eco love and happiness. And rounding off the week, on Friday 14th and Saturday 15th April, children can step inside a giant seedpod for a special storytelling session. Storytelling will take place on the hour between 11am – 3pm near Market Square.
