B&M Waste Services Launches the Year of the Environment with Wirral Eco Schools

Eco schools

A group of more than 35 teachers launched their Year of the Environment pledge with a visit B&M Waste’s Recycling Innovation Centre this month where they took the grand tour, learning start to finish the benefits of waste reduction and recycling strategies, as well as the unique education programme B&M Waste are offering schools under their Little Litter Pickers umbrella.

The scheme is made up of three parts, an initial litter pick where the children understand waste produced whilst improving their local environment, a visit to the Bromborough-based recycling innovation centre where a tour is accompanied by a vibrant and interactive lesson, and a follow up programme for the school to take with them when they return, to implement what’s been learnt and get the whole school reducing waste and recycling more.

Lynn Struve, Eco Schools Manager for Wirral Council said: “We’re very grateful to B&M Waste for hosting our meeting. The Eco Schools programme is an International award  , which looks at all the ways our schools can minimise their environmental impact. Wirral now has 119 eco schools involved  in the programme, so the particular focus on waste and recycling brought to life in the visit to B&M Waste’s education centre, was a fantastic eye-opener as we saw first-hand the impact of waste, solutions for recycling and learnt about the fantastic education programme B&M Waste offer.”

Jayne Kennedy, Marketing Manager for B&M Waste added: “We welcome the partnership with Wirral Eco-schools and are excited to launch our Little Litter Pickers education programme to them. We are a Carbon Neutral waste and recycling company who always look to add value to the environment and the community, and believe in offering this programme to schools we are helping educate the future generations about the importance of waste minimisation whilst assisting schools in fulfilling the national curriculum. The scheme includes KS1-4 level of content delivered by our very own fully qualified teacher.”
