B&M Waste Services Celebrate Manchester Charity, Childhood Tumour Trust, With £3k Donation and Truck Unveiling

B&M Waste Services has demonstrated their support of nominated Manchester charity, Childhood Tumour Trust, by branding two of its famous ‘Big Yellow Trucks’ with signage for the organisation,  as well as presenting them with a £3000 cheque.

The unveiling of the trucks, along with the cheque presentation, took place on Wednesday at B&M Waste’s Manchester depot.

The only charity of its kind in the UK, Childhood Tumour Trust works tirelessly to raise awareness and support the children and families of those diagnosed with Neurofibromatosis (NF1), a relatively unknown yet life-limiting disease. The charity was launched in 2016 by Vanessa Martin, whose daughter Nicole, was born with the disease. Run by a group of parents – including Vanessa – whose children are affected by the genetic condition, the charity helps sufferers of NF1 and their families to enjoy days out, allows older children to enjoy safe and rewarding summer camps abroad, and campaigns tirelessly to highlight the disease at a national level.

Whilst a clearly worthwhile charity, choosing Childhood Tumour Trust as their nominated charity was an even easier decision for B&M Waste given that Mark Anderson – a long-serving employee of the company – has direct experience of NF1. Mark’s 5 year old son, Sam, was born with Neurofibromatosis and, having had the support of Childhood Tumour Trust, it was an obvious choice for Mark to nominate the charity.

Mark and Sam, along with Mark’s wife, Sarah, and their daughter, Lucy, were invited to the truck unveiling and presentation. The day was especially exciting for Sam and his sister who enjoyed a sit in the cab of the newly-branded trucks, and even took their own photos on behalf of the B&M Waste team. Vanessa and Nicole from the charity, along with Nicole’s care dog, Teegan, were also in attendance and were overwhelmed with the support.

Vanessa commented; “We’re so grateful for the support shown to Childhood Tumour Trust by B&M Waste Services. The branding of their trucks with our logo, message and website details will ensure that vital information is given exposure on a much bigger platform whilst the donation will ensure we can continue to offer memorable experiences for children with NF1 and their families.”

As well as the unveiling and cheque presentation, the B&M Waste Manchester team were introduced to the charity, explaining what Childhood Tumour Trust does and how to look out for symptoms of NF1.

Dave Curtis, Director at B&M Waste, presented the charity with the cheque, commenting; “The easy part is writing the cheque. The difficult part is living with the disease, day-in, day-out. The amazing part is what Childhood Tumour Trust is doing; the national platform its giving to this condition and the countless lives that will benefit from their wonderful work”.

Graham Curtis, also a Director for the company, added; “As a family-run business, we believe in supporting our staff and their families, as well as giving back to the communities in which we operate. What Childhood Tumour Trust has achieved already is outstanding and, going forward, we will continue to support them in any way we can. I’d like to thank Mark for introducing this charity to us as its such a worthy and notable cause, which we are proud to stand behind.”
