Last month saw the B&M boys take on the epic London to Paris bike ride covering over 300 miles in just four days, raising a staggering amount for Claire House Children’s Hospice in the process. The event commenced with an early start in Bromley where the team cycled to Dover before catching the ferry to Dunkirk. Along the way they faced mechanical issues and steep hills but made it to their hotel in Dunkirk after a gruelling 93 miles. After a night’s rest they faced another day in the saddle, fortunately this was only 70 miles to Douai, where even the sun came out to cheer them on. With only two days left of the challenge the team gave it their all on the longest ride from Douai to Soissons. The final leg to Paris saw the team head of the group crossing the finish line at the Champs-Elysees.
The team did a fantastic job raising over £8,000 for Claire House Children’s Hospice, and after a night of rest and recuperation the team were rewarded for all their hard work and got to watch the Tour de France cyclists finish their journey.
Throughout the challenge donations from friends, family and colleagues poured in showing their support for the team and the designated charity Claire House Children’s Hospice. Claire House is a charity close to people’s hearts at B&M Waste Services and the team taking part. Claire House provide care and support for children who have life limiting conditions and their families.
Graham Curtis, Director at B&M Waste Services, said “It’s a great experience and I’m amazed by the response we have had from family, friends, colleagues and customers. It’s a tough challenge but it was thoroughly enjoyed by the whole team. Raising over £8,000 is outstanding and we are all so grateful for the donations and know that they are going to an amazing cause close to all our hearts.”
Jess Campbell, corporate fundraiser for Claire House, said “Each year they out do themselves we can’t praise the team enough for their hard work raising money for Claire House and obviously for tackling this epic bike ride head on. This amount of money can help so many children and their families get the support and help they so desperately deserve”
On Friday 5th August Jess Campbell from Claire House got to meet the cycling team and thank them personally for their efforts. All donations made to the B&M lads have been matched by B&M Waste Services raising a grand total of £8,684.
