B&M cycling team raise £5000 for Claire House

The harrowing 300 mile bike ride from London to Paris has seen essential funds raised for Claire House Children’s Hospice, who provide an invaluable service to children with life limiting conditions.Claire House

Graham Curtis, Neil Curtis and Craig Pryce embarked on the challenge on 22 July completing over 100 miles on one day of the four day journey to cycle from London to complete the challenge at the Eiffel Tower on 26 July, the same weekend as the Tour de France also came to an end.

Through wind, rain, sun and shade the team endeavoured, all the while promoting via social media to encourage as many donations to Claire House as possible.

Day 1 The first day was an 89 mile trek from London to Dover, spirits were high even after a 3 hours delay at Dover waiting to board the ferry. Finally arriving at the hotel, the team celebrated a terrific start to the journey learn this here now.

Day 2 Through the Somme and after the first 50 miles it was time for lunch. And then selfie time before completing the 107 mile dayCycling

Day 3 After two long days this was a challenge but the thought of the last day tomorrow kept the team going.

ere triumphant and completed the challenge, arriving at the finishing line at the iconic Eiffel Tower.

Graham Curtis, Director at B&M Waste Services said “As a family-run business, Claire House is a charity close to our hearts. The physical challenge was nothing compared to what some families have to go through, and that was at the back of our mind on the way. Spurring me on was a lovely picture drawn by one of the children at Claire House which I received just before we left, hitting home to me the importance of the challenge.”

Paul Hennin, a Claire House parent who also cycled in the challenge said: “It was such a tough experience, but also so rewarding. We cycled into Paris as heroes through the Tour de France crowds and finished at the Eiffel Tower.Triumphant

“It’s great that we can do things like this for Claire House, as the hospice has done so much for my family. My daughter Elle has been looked after by the incredible nursing team there for many years, and we can either spend time at the hospice as a family, or Elle can get some much needed respite from us!”
